Taipei, June 2 (CNA) The 2019 Taipei International Information Technology Show attracted more than 42,000 international visitors, a record high as new generation gaming products caught the eye of enthusiastic gamers.

The computer and technology expo, commonly known as COMPUTEX, was held simultaneously at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Taipei World Trade Center and Taipei International Convention Center from May 28 to June 1.

The 5-day event registered 42,495 visitors from 171 countries worldwide, a slight increase on the 42,284 visitors from 168 countries last year, according to data from the official COMPUTEX website.

A total of 76 "heavyweight" buyers invited by the organizers participated in 470 one-on-one talks with exhibitors, the website said, adding that the top 10 buyers this year were from China, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Germany, Malaysia, and India.

Four of these countries are targets of Taiwan's New Southbound Policy, an indication that interactions with them in the field of information and technology have increased, the organizers said.

Furthermore, the InnoVEX expo, which invited startups to showcase innovative ideas, technological marvels and investment exchanges, attracted 18,251 visitors over a three-day period from May 29-31, about 3 percent more than last year.

In addition, 45 international venture capital firms and 69 start-up companies, including Samsung NEXT, LINE and Israel's biggest equity crowdfunding platform OurCrowd attended InnoVEX, the organizers said.

Gaming was a major attraction at this year's expo, as high development and big marketing budget games continue to launch and PC firms produce high-end devices like high performance multitasking processors, graphics cards and memory cards, said Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), one of the COMPUTEX organizers.

The organizers also held the ZOTAC cup charity gaming tournament from which US$100,000 in prize money will be donated to different charitable institutions around the world.

Next year's COMPUTEX marks the 40th anniversary of the event.
