Apple adds 3 Taiwan manufacturers to supplier list

10/03/2022

Taipei, Oct. 3 (CNA) U.S.-based consumer electronics giant Apple Inc. added three Taiwanese manufacturers to its supplier list in fiscal year 2021, while many others, such as iPhone assembler Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., IC packaging and testing services provider ASE Technology Holding Co., and contract chipmaker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) remained on the list.

On the latest supplier list released for the year ending September 2021, metal powder injection molding device maker Taiwan Powder Technologies Co., membrane touch switches supplier Ko Ja (Cayman) Co. and liquid crystal display (LCD) surface-mount technology production solutions provider Taiwan Surface Mounting Technology Corp. were added.

As for Hon Hai, about 40 percent of its sales come from Apple, with the manufacturer's production sites in China's Guangdong, Henan, Hubei, Jiangsu, Shaanxi, Sichuan and Zhejiang provinces, Brazil's Amasonas and Sao Paulo, India's Tamil Nadu state, the U.S. states of California and Texas, and Vietnam's Bac Giang province on the Apple supplier list.

Hon Hai, also known as Foxconn on the global market, rolls out iPhones at its Zhengzhou complex in Henan, while its production compound in Shenzhen is engaged in development and new product introduction (NPI) for iPhones, analysts said.

Meanwhile, ASE's production sites in China's Jiangsu and Shanghai, Japan's Yamagata prefecture, South Korea's Gyeonggi province, Singapore, Taiwan's Kaohsiung, Taoyuan and Nantou, and Vietnam's Haiphong were on the latest Apple supplier list. ASE is the world's largest IC packaging and testing provider.

TSMC, the world's largest contract chipmaker, is believed to serve as the sole supplier of chips for iPhone productions as Apple is one of its largest clients.

Other Taiwanese manufacturers on the list included smartphone camera lens suppliers Largan Precision Co. and Genius Electronic Optical Co., power management solution provider Delta Electronics Inc., metal casing supplier Catcher Technology Co., Hon Hai's resistor subsidiary Cheng Uei Precision Industry Co., and contract notebook computer makers Compal Electronics, Inc. and Inventec Corp.

Smaller Taiwanese iPhone assemblers Pegatron Corp. and Wistron Corp., the world's third largest multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) maker Yageo Corp., and dynamic random access memory chip supplier Nanya Technology Corp., printed circuit board supplier Compeq Manufacturing Co., and Unimicron Technology Corp., one of Taiwan's major Ajinomoto build-up film (ABF) suppliers, were also on the list.
