Microchip e trasporto marittimo: il tesoro che rende indispensabile Taiwan

Le fonderie dell'isola rivendicata dalla Cina di Xi Jinping producono circa il 64% dei microchip per il mercato mondiale, fondamentali per auto, armi, smartphone ed elettrodomestici. Centrali anche due dei maggiori porti del mondo, quelli di Taipei e di Kaoshiung. L'export, nel 2021, ha toccato il valore di 446 miliardi di dollari

Piccola ma strategica. Per vari motivi: dalla posizione geografica alla leadership nell’industria tecnologica. È Taiwan, l’isola rivendicata dalla Cina che Xi Jinping vorrebbe vedere ancora unita

Ragioni politiche, storiche e culturali spingono Pechino a continuare a considerare Taiwan come parte della Repubblica Popolare Cinese. L’isola, dal 1949, termine della guerra civile cinese, si considera di fatto separata dalla Cina continentale. La maggior parte delle potenze mondiali - tra cui Stati Uniti e Ue - ancora oggi non la riconosce come indipendente. Quasi tutte però vi intrattengono rapporti commerciali e diplomatici come se lo fosse (in foto, il presidente cinese Xi Jinping)

Le mire cinesi verso Taiwan sarebbero però motivate anche e soprattutto dalla sua potenza economica. Innanzitutto per i microchip, indispensabili a settori industriali ad alta tecnologia come auto, armi, elettrodomestici e smartphone

Le fonderie taiwanesi producono quasi i due terzi (circa il 64%) dei microchip del mercato mondiale. Sono fabbricati con l'utilizzo di semiconduttori, materiali dalle caratteristiche fisiche particolari che li posizionano a metà tra i conduttori elettrici e i non conduttori e che li rendono così tra i più adatti per moltissimi prodotti

Il mercato dei semiconduttori taiwanesi totalizza il 26% del commercio estero dell'isola, più del 24% combinato di Usa e Giappone nello stesso settore. Appartiene a questa categoria, per fare un esempio, il silicio

La Cina, in risposta alla visita della presidente della Camera Usa Nancy Pelosi a Taiwan, ha bloccato l'import di migliaia di prodotti alimentari in arrivo dall'isola. Non ha però adottato misure contro i microprocessori prodotti da Taipei, pur fermando l'export di sabbia naturale il cui silicio è alla base della loro produzione

A Taiwan ha sede centrale anche il colosso Foxconn, il più grande produttore di componenti elettrici e di elettronica. Ne è anche assemblatore, con più di un milione di dipendenti in Cina, dove mette a punto i prodotti di Apple, a partire dagli iPhone

Li said that China will not allow US warships' visiting Taiwan. 'If US warshps make the visit despite China's objection, they violate China's Anti-Secession Law and the People's Liberation Army will seek Taiwan's unification by force.' China's Anti-Secession Law stipulates that China will recover Taiwan by force if Taiwan declares independence, if a major events occurs in Taiwan that can lead to Taiwan's separation from China, or if all possibility of peaceful unification is lost. In September, the US Senate passed the National Defense Authorization Act for 2018 which directs the Pentagon to assess the feasibility of mutual port visits by US and Taiwanese warships, and the ports are tipped to include Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan, plus key US Navy strongholds in the Far East and Pacific, such as Guam and Pearl Harbour.

C’è poi la posizione geografica ad aumentare la strategicità di Taiwan per l’economia mondiale. L’isola vanta il 10% del totale delle spedizioni marittime globali, soprattutto grazie alle compagnie Evergreen, Yang Ming Marine e Wan Hai e alla presenza di due porti tra i più grandi del mondo, Kaoshiung e Taipei

L'export taiwanese è in continua crescita. Nel 2020 l'isola è stata una delle pochissime realtà al mondo a crescere a dispetto della pandemia del Covid-19 registrando un +2,9% del Pil, dato superiore anche a quello della Cina

Taipei, officially known as Taipei City is the capital of Taiwan. Situated at the northern tip of Taiwan, Taipei is located on the Tamsui River; it is about 25 km (16 mi) southwest of Keelung, a port city on the Pacific Ocean. It lies in the Taipei Basin, an ancient lakebed bounded by the two relatively narrow valleys of the Keelung and Xindian rivers, which join to form the Tamsui River along the city's western border.The city proper is home to an estimated 2,618,772 people. Taipei, New Taipei, and Keelung together form the Taipei Keelung metropolitan area with a population of 6,900,273. They are administered under three municipal governing bodies. "Taipei" sometimes refers to the whole metropolitan area, while "Taipei City" refers to the city proper. Taipei City proper is surrounded on all sides by New Taipei.

Nel 2021, riporta Bloomberg, l'export di Taiwan è arrivato alla cifra record di 446 miliardi di dollari, salendo di circa 100 miliardi rispetto alle cifre del 2020

Un altro settore particolarmente forte per l'economia taiwanese è quello della produzione di batterie, specie per veicoli elettrici
